On Wednesday, police surrounded the residential building where a man had barricaded himself for just over twelve hours. The man had several weapons in the house, and police negotiators tried to resolve the situation through dialogue, without success.

At 9 p.m., according to TV2, heavy flames were visible behind the house, and an hour later the police announced that the man had been arrested.

Even though flames were coming out of the house, active shooting from the house continued, said response leader Per Magnus Svabø to NRK.

Gas used

The police used gas to force the man out of the house. The house caught fire, and the man was arrested outside the house at 9:43 p.m.

"Repeated attempts to engage in dialogue and negotiations have not been successful," the police wrote, according to NRK, in a statement that continues: "When the man fired shots again, the situation escalated and the risks to our personnel increased."

According to the police, no shots were fired during the operation, and no police officers were injured.

The alarm had come on Wednesday morning: A man was shooting wildly around him. When the police arrived at the scene, he also shot at them, then locked himself in his home.

Multiple registered weapons

There are no reports of injuries in connection with the shooting, where the man fired up to 60 shots during the morning, according to witnesses.

I thought he had a lot of cartridges and that he would soon run out of ammunition, a neighbor told NRK.

The Oslo police sent reinforcements during the day, including negotiators, task forces, helicopters and a specially built armored car.

The man is said to be a member of a shooting club and owns several registered weapons.

He is now suspected, among other things, of serious unlawful threats.
