There are no reports of injuries after a man fired several shots in a residential area on Wednesday morning - according to witnesses who spoke to Norwegian media, he fired up to 60 shots.
After the shooting, the man barricaded himself in a house, which police have surrounded. By 5 p.m., police had not had contact with the man for nearly two hours, but he is believed to be alone in the home.
"We want to solve this through dialogue and negotiation," task force leader Per Magnus Svabø told NRK.
The man is said to be a member of a shooting club and owns several registered weapons.
Residents in the affected area are urged to exercise caution, but according to the police, there is no immediate danger as long as residents stay outside police cordons.
The police received several calls around 9 a.m. about someone shooting in the northern part of Bergen. When they arrived at the scene, he also shot at the police.
Oslo police have sent reinforcements to Bergen, including task forces and negotiators.
