The Ångermanland District Court believes that the contact attempts were "so intense and prolonged that they constituted a violation of the skier's integrity".
He is sentenced to imprisonment for one year and four months – October 2023 to February 2025.
"Even a public person has personal integrity", the court writes in its judgment, stating that the man's contact attempts are a "repeated violation of Frida Karlsson's integrity".
"Felt unsafe"
I even felt unsafe at home. I'm a fairly trusting person, but after that, I started looking over my shoulder, said Karlsson during the trial in March.
It was after the man sought out Frida Karlsson for the third time in 2024 that she began to feel unsafe even at home. The man appeared outside the 25-year-old's apartment in Östersund in August. Previously, she had felt uneasy after the 64-year-old – who lives in central Sweden – sought her out in Stockholm during a charity race and during a training session in Sollefteå.
I really reacted when I heard his voice in Stockholm. Then I got scared, said Karlsson.
The prosecutor requested six months' imprisonment, but despite the cumulative criminality corresponding to that sentence, it remains at a conditional sentence.
The District Court believes, for example, that there is no reason to believe that the 64-year-old will commit further criminality. Especially since he is now "fully aware of the implications of a contact ban and that Frida Karlsson does not want any contact with him whatsoever", according to the judgment.
Over 7,000 images
The man is said to have called the skier 207 times, left numerous voice messages, and sent numerous SMS messages. Over 7,000 images, almost all of them of Karlsson, were found on the man's mobile phone.
The man has admitted to calling and sending SMS messages, as well as seeking out Karlsson in both Stockholm and Sollefteå. However, he claims that he did not intend to violate the skier. During the trial, he denied any wrongdoing.
In police questioning, it emerged that he believes he had a romantic reaction to the star and that she responded to him by posting pictures on social media.
I sent SMS messages where there was then silence. Then she posted a picture and communicated that way, he said during the trial.
TT has sought out Frida Karlsson, who currently does not wish to comment on the judgment.
A 64-year-old man is sentenced to a conditional sentence for stalking the skier Frida Karlsson.
According to the indictment, the crimes were committed between October 22, 2023, and February 21, 2025.
He is said to have called Karlsson 207 times, left numerous voice messages, and sent numerous SMS messages.
Over 7,000 images, almost all of them of Karlsson, were found on his mobile phone. He obtained the images via various Instagram accounts.
On three occasions in 2024, the man sought out Frida Karlsson at locations where she was present. The first time was during a charity race in Stockholm in May, the second time during a training session in Sollefteå in June, and the third time outside Frida Karlsson's residence in Östersund in August.
The man has been notified of a contact ban against Karlsson since November 16, 2024, but he has broken it several times.
He also bought a round-trip ticket to Spanish Tenerife, where the skier was on a longer training camp in the fall of 2024. The man never used his ticket.
In mid-February this year, he sent a handwritten letter on four pages to the skier. It was addressed to Karlsson's parents.
