The woman, who was in her 75s, was admitted to the Academic Hospital with serious injuries early last year. She later died from her injuries.
The hospital staff suspected that it was the man who had injured her and called the police.
The man is sentenced to four years in prison for aggravated assault and aggravated manslaughter. He denies the charges.
