”To threaten or harass athletes is unacceptable and does not belong in sports", the betting site writes in a statement.
Gabby Thomas – who took Olympic Games gold on 200 meters in Paris last year – finished fourth on 100 meters during the Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia, USA, last weekend.
Prior to the race, the American was harassed and mocked by a man.
”This adult man followed me around the track when I took pictures and wrote autographs to fans (most of which were children) and shouted personal insults”, Thomas wrote on X after the competition.
The man has stated that he harassed the 28-year-old star solely to win 10,000 kronor.
”I made Gabby lose by mocking her. That made my bet go in”, the man himself wrote on social media and posted a picture of the winning receipt.
The organization behind Grand Slam Track – which was created by running legend Michael Johnson – stated after the competition that the incident would be investigated.
”We will introduce additional protective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future”, the organization wrote.
