The man was previously detained in his absence but was arrested on Friday afternoon by police during an operation in the areas around Klippan in northwestern Skåne. He is on probable grounds suspected of murder, which is the higher degree of suspicion.
It was on May 9 that a man and a woman aged 70-75 were found dead in their home in Klippan. The two dead were discovered by a relative.
Much indicates that the murders took place at night, according to Kristin Vernet, senior prosecutor leading the investigation.
There is much that remains in the investigation. However, I can say that it is information from the public that has been submitted during the week that has led to the police suspecting this person, says Vernet.
The suspected man has not been convicted of a crime previously. Kristin Vernet does not want to disclose his age yet. The police do not want to rule out more perpetrators, but there is nothing that suggests that.
"A methodical and good police work that has led to success based on the assessment we can make now," says local police chief Anna Lindahl in a press release.
The police state that the investigation work is entering "a new intensive phase" where one secures tracks through house searches and holds further interviews with witnesses. Interrogations with the man will also be held over the weekend.
