In the match series between Djurgården and Malmö, two refereeing errors have come under scrutiny. The first match was decided in overtime by Djurgården's Anton Frondell (3–2) - a goal that the SHL later acknowledged was incorrect. In the second match, history repeated itself with the roles reversed, when Malmö's William von Barnekow became the match hero after a missed offside call.
But in the decisive round-of-16 match in Malmö, the home team won convincingly. William von Barnekow opened the scoring midway through the second period. Axel Sundberg then made it 2–0 in the third, before Joona Ikonen sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Djurgården did break Malmö's deadlock through Ludvig Rensfeldt with eleven seconds left, but it didn't help much.
"It was crazy fun. We had good speed from the start and I think we simply overtook them," said Malmö's Axel Sundberg to TV4.
In the other round-of-16 series, reigning champion Luleå won 4–2 against Örebro in the third and deciding match.
This means that Luleå will face Frölunda in the quarterfinals, while Malmö will face the series winner Skellefteå.
