Malmö FF has at least secured play in the league phase of the Conference League, the lowest ranked of the European Football Association's (Uefa) three tournaments on the men's side.

A place there gives around 43 million kronor in basic funding, but the really big money is in the Champions League (CL). The reward for just participating is around 207 million kronor.

To reach that, MFF must first beat FC Copenhagen at Parken on Tuesday evening – the first meeting in Malmö ended goalless. With a win in the double meeting, Swiss Basel awaits in the CL playoff. The loser in the playoff is directly qualified for the league play in the Europa League (EL).

The meeting with Copenhagen can in itself be said to be worth almost 48 million kronor. This is the consolation sum MFF would receive if they were to lose in the playoff against Basel.

If Malmö is eliminated by the Danes, they will instead face a Europa League playoff against Czech Sigma Olomouc. The winner can count on 48 million kronor for the league play in that tournament – the loser will have to settle for the Conference League in the fall.
