The pigeons had been picked up on the street and killed in the restaurant's kitchen, according to the Spanish El País.
The birds, however, were not the only irregularity at the restaurant. Cockroaches roamed around the kitchen. Meat hooks hung lined up on the clothes rack. Over a ton of unmarked meat and fish lay hidden in a secret storage room in rusty industrial refrigerators. Rat traps in the corners were baited with rotten meat bits.
Furthermore, species forbidden for sale and consumption were found, according to El País, including sea cucumbers.
The restaurant in the Madrid district of Usera has now been closed with immediate effect and a legal case has been initiated.
