There is too little discussion about preschool in Sweden, says M leader Ulf Kristersson at a press conference in Mariefred together with party colleague Elisabeth Svantesson, Minister of Finance.
Preschool should be free of charge, says the Prime Minister.
He points to the role of preschool as an integration factor and emphasizes that "mothers and, to some extent, fathers should be able to work."
Kristersson describes the current fee as "in practice" a tax on work because it is based on income level. According to the Moderates, the fee particularly affects single parents, foreign-born women and those with lower incomes.
This is good for the children, for their learning and language development, and it creates conditions for women to work and be independent, says Kristersson.
The reform is estimated to cost 10 billion a year, which according to M will be financed through reduced bureaucracy, less subsidy fraud and redistributed aid.
