"The Moderates want to increase the maximum sentence for those who recruit children into criminal gangs. I note that the situation has worsened," says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer to Expressen.

In the summer of 2023, the crime of “involving a minor in crime” was introduced, which means that it became illegal to exploit children in criminal contexts. The maximum penalty for a person who recruits a minor to commit crimes such as bombings and shootings is currently four years in prison.

The Moderates now want to agree with the other Tidö parties to tighten the maximum sentence to twelve years in prison, according to Expressen.

The price for someone who destroys a child's life by recruiting them is far too low, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) to the newspaper.

According to Strömmer, criminal gangs are investing heavily in recruiting children and young people online.

"I note that the situation has worsened. Not least because recruitment has been largely digitalized," he says.

Gunnar Strömmer is also open to introducing a felony within the same category, with harsher penalties for those who systematically recruit children into the criminal environment.
