Ludwig Göransson has previously talked about how his father Tomas got him hooked on blues music – which has now led to him receiving an Oscar for best music for the film "Sinners", directed by Ryan Coogler.
From the stage at the Dolby Theatre, Göransson recounted how his father bought a blues record by John Lee Hooker in 1964.
It was from the other side of the world, a place my dad had never been to and a place he couldn't relate to, but the music changed my dad's life.
The father became a music teacher and inspired his son, who has now received his third Oscar. Göransson previously won Oscars for the film scores for “Black Panther” (2018) and “Oppenheimer” (2023).
Göransson was seven years old when he got his first guitar.
And it was the guitar that opened doors for me and it was the guitar that took me to the United States and ultimately led me to one of the foremost storytellers of our time - Ryan Coogler.
But there was no Oscar for best song. Göransson was nominated for his song "I Lied to You" written with Raphael Saadiq, from "Sinners". The award went to "K-pop: Demonjägarna" for the song "Golden".
Ludwig Göransson from Linköping moved to the US 20 years ago and has become one of Hollywood's most sought-after songwriters in the film industry. Later this summer he will be responsible for the music for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and “Odyssey” by Christopher Nolan.
