The season is still young, but after the victory in the major tournament Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in mid-February, Ludvig Åberg took over the top spot on the PGA Tour's Fedex Cup ranking.
Since then, he has had two tournament-free weeks, but now the Swedish world number four is playing the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida.
"Cool tournaments"
It was nice to have a few weeks off. I spent some time with my coach (Hans Larsson) at home in "Jax" (Jacksonville, Florida) and it was nice. I'm looking forward to a really good period with cool tournaments, says Åberg.
The tournament on Bay Hill can be seen as the starting point for a period with several major tournaments. Later in March, The Players Championship – "the fifth major" – awaits, and in mid-April, this year's first major, US Masters. Last year at Augusta National, Åberg finished second in his major debut behind world number one Scottie Scheffler, USA.
Now Åberg and Scheffler will play the first two rounds together in Orlando. At a press conference before the tournament, the Swede was asked if there was anything in the world number one's game that Åberg wanted to emulate.
Take the chance at the right time
I think there are many things that Scottie does really well, says Åberg with a smile.
He highlights that title defender Scheffler can take chances with his drives, but that he may not be as opportunistic with his approach shots, which ultimately gives him many good chances to win tournaments.
He is very disciplined in his way of playing golf, which is the reason why he has won twice here and won on really tough golf courses. I think it's a strategy I would like to emulate a bit more, says Ludvig Åberg.
On Thursday, Åberg and Scheffler will start their round at 15.45, Swedish time.
