Denmark's Prime Minister wants to talk to Trump

Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has proposed a conversation with Donald Trump after his outburst about "taking control" of Greenland. I don't think anything concrete will happen before Trump becomes president, she says according to Denmark's Radio after a crisis meeting with Danish party leaders.

Frederiksen says that she assumes the proposed conversation with Trump will take place.

We expect, hope for and work towards having as good a cooperation with the incoming president as we have had with all other presidents, says the Prime Minister.

She adds that there is no reason to believe that the USA would use military means. Earlier in the week, Trump warned that a military intervention is not ruled out.

During Thursday evening's meeting, the party leaders were informed about the government's position regarding the latest developments with the USA's incoming president's statements.

Of course, it's about a crisis, said Pia Olsen Dyhr, leader of the Socialist People's Party, on her way into the meeting.

Afterwards, Olsen Dyhr says, however, that she agrees with the government and that there is no need to "escalate the conflict", reports Danish Radio.

Several parties express dissatisfaction after the meeting, including the left-wing Unity List, which thinks that the government's line towards the USA is too lenient.
