LKAB reported to the police by the Work Environment Authority for suspected work environment crime following a fatal accident.

In May 2024, a man in his 60s died in connection with a maintenance job at a crusher in LKAB's mine in Kiruna. Now LKAB is being reported to the police by the Work Environment Authority for suspected work environment crime, local media report.

When an employee dies at work, it's the worst that can happen, and that the Work Environment Authority is making a police report is expected given the severity of the incident, says Joel Kangas, mine manager at LKAB in Kiruna, to NSD.

The Work Environment Authority has previously identified several safety deficiencies in work tasks at LKAB's site, writes NSD with reference to the news agency Siren. LKAB has also conducted its own investigation of the accident.
