At the same time as Norwegian Lise Klaveness was elected to a quota seat for women – without any opponent – Swede Karl-Erik Nilsson is leaving as his mandate has expired.
On behalf of Norwegian football, I will be an engaged board member with a clear voice in important matters, she says to NTB.
Klaveness is not afraid of confrontations and clear stances. Among other things, Norway abstained from voting in protest against the World Championship in Saudi Arabia.
The Norwegian has previously stated that she intends to donate 20 percent of her Uefa remuneration (approximately 1.8 million kronor annually) to charitable purposes.
Ari Lahti, chairman of the Finnish Football Association, was also elected to the Uefa board for four years. This means that three Nordic football leaders sit on the powerful body. Jens Møller, chairman of the Danish Association, has two years left on his mandate.
On the other hand, Ukrainian Andrij Sjevtjenko – goal scorer in, among others, Italian Milan during the 2000s – was rejected. Sjevtjenko ran for one of two vacant seats on a two-year mandate, but he only received 15 votes. 28 votes out of 55 were required to be elected.
The former striker has been chairman of Ukraine's Football Association since 2024 and has also been the national team coach for the country's men's team for a longer period.
