Linda Bergström Reflects on Emotional World Championship Exit

Bergström cried when she was interviewed by the radio after the loss against the Czech Hana Matelova in the second round of the women's singles in the World Championship in Doha, Qatar.

I'm very disappointed, of course. There are a lot of emotions right now, says Bergström to Radiosporten.

She tells that after the Olympic Games last summer, she has been thinking about why she continues to invest in table tennis.

"Tough"

My why hasn't been as obvious as it always has been. It's tough to deal with that and not know what to do. Is it worth putting in so much time and effort, or should I try to find joy somewhere else?

Earlier in the championship, she was also eliminated in the women's doubles with Stina Källberg and in the mixed doubles with Mattias Falck.

It's hard when you have the feeling that this life takes more than it gives for the moment. It's quite scary to have it like that and not really know what I want with my life and career for the moment.

Against Matelova, she had five set balls to force a sixth set, but then the Czech won seven straight balls to decide the match 4–1.

Kristian Karlsson, on the other hand, is moving on in the men's singles after a strong 4–0 win against Spanish Alvaro Robles, but in the round of 16, he will face much tougher opposition. There, Karlsson will meet the Chinese world number one Lin Shidong.

Anton Källberg is also through to the round of 16. The Swede had full control in the meeting with Mohammed Abdulwahhab, Qatar. 4–0 became the winning numbers for Källberg, who in the next round will face Maharu Yoshimura, Japan.

"Very pleased"

I'm very pleased with my match, felt like I controlled from start to finish, says Källberg to SVT.

If Karlsson and Källberg win in the next round, a Swedish quarterfinal awaits. World number seven Truls Möregårdh has already qualified for the round of 16 against Kao Cheng-Jui, Taiwan.

It could also become an all-Swedish quarterfinal in doubles. Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson defeated the Germans Dang Qui and Benedikt Duda with 3–2.

They will meet Anton Källberg and Truls Möregårdh, if they win against the top-seeded French brothers Felix and Alexis Lebrun in Wednesday's round of 16 match. Alexis Lebrun has withdrawn from the singles but is expected to play the doubles match.
