"It's about doing everything we can to bring kidnapped schoolchildren home," says the Liberals' party leader Simona Mohamsson.
The unit will locate and actively help return children and young adults who have been taken out of Sweden. It will be placed under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cooperate with the police, have coordinators at Swedish embassies, pursue the issue diplomatically and plan the children's return home.
The Liberals also want to see a national register of abducted children. Since 2018, at least 700 children have been taken out of the country against their will, according to Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson (L).
The Liberals also want to broaden the current travel ban and introduce a mandatory search effort when children are unannounced absent from school on the first day of the semester.
