It was the upset that the entire hockey world was talking about.
Denmark's heroic turnaround and victory against Canada, 2–1.
Just a few minutes after the Swedish 5–2 victory over the Czech Republic was a fact, the surprise in Danish Herning was a reality. So unexpected that it was with a "pinch me"-feeling.
Even for Leo Carlsson.
A Canada that defeated Sweden.
A heavy favorite that is gone.
Yes, really. You can't stand here and lie about it, says the 20-year-old Anaheim player, the Värmland native who broke through in Örebro, where he stands in the mixed zone where players meet the press.
"Need to land a bit"
But he hastens to add:
They won against Canada, so they can win against anyone.
The super talent scored two goals against the Czech Republic. A big evening for him.
It's hard to describe, I need to land a bit, he says.
A fully packed Globen, 12,530 spectators, rocked with joy over Sweden's dream start (3–0 after one period), double two-goal scorers (Carlsson and Lucas Raymond) and continued World Championship party.
Tre Kronor have played eight straight matches in Globen in front of a sold-out crowd.
Leo Carlsson on what the audience support means:
It gives me and us adrenaline, much easier to backcheck and forecheck and all that. It gives a big boost.
"My biggest match"
On Saturday, it can be a party again when the USA awaits in the semifinal.
A young team, they play the American style, very much back and forth. If we play our game, we win the match.
It has only been a few minutes since the quarterfinal against the Czech Republic ended, but Leo Carlsson can barely wait for Saturday's treat that a World Championship semifinal entails.
It's going to be sick fun, probably my biggest match. So I'm stoked about it.
