Left Party Reports Ministers to Constitutional Committee Over Assistance Allowance

The Left Party reports three ministers to the Constitutional Committee (KU) for the government's communication about the assistance allowance. It is a gigantic betrayal against the disabled, says the Left Party's spokesperson Nadja Awad.

At a government press conference in September 2024, The Liberals' disability policy spokesperson Malin Danielsson stated that "in the future, we will introduce, before the coming year, an indexation of the standard amount" for personal assistance.

Present at the press conference were SD's group leader Linda Lindberg, Social Minister Jakob Forssmed (KD) and Social Services Minister Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M).

But when the government's last ordinary budget for the term was presented on Monday, there was no indexation included. The standard amount will instead be increased by 1.5 percent, or 5 kronor and 10 öre.

"Have not promised that"

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) said that the Tidö parties had never promised any indexation.

I think she (Malin Danielsson) spoke for what The Liberals want to drive. It's not like we as four parties have promised that, said Svantesson.

Now the Left Party is reporting the three ministers to the Constitutional Committee.

Once again, this government shows that they are not coordinated. They blame a spokesperson from The Liberals, at the same time Svantesson's government colleagues have been present at exactly the same press conference, says Nadja Awad, spokesperson for elderly care and disability rights.

"A gigantic betrayal"

At the press conference a year ago, it also emerged from a presentation slide from the Government Offices that an indexation of the amount "will be introduced" in order to create greater predictability for municipalities, private providers and for assistance recipients.

Then Svantesson says that they have not promised the indexation and it's a lie and a gigantic betrayal against the disabled, says Awad.

She further states that the reactions from the assistance industry have been massive after the government's announcement.
