With five days left until the election, the Left Party is presenting its election manifesto. Most of it is already known, but one new pledge is a higher pension.
V wants to both raise the pension contribution to 18.5 percent and introduce a more generous "gas". A gas means that if the surplus in the income pension system is large enough, it should be distributed to pensioners.
An increased allocation to the system could provide up to an extra 2,000 kronor per month directly to today's pensioners, says the Left Party's economic policy spokesperson, Ida Gabrielsson, at a press conference.
Another important issue for V is increasing government grants to municipalities and regions. Indexing government grants, that is, increasing them with inflation every year, as S has promised, is not enough, V believes.
The election manifesto also proposes a wage increase for women, a strengthened unemployment fund, increased child benefits, the abolition of the waiting period deduction, frozen rents, dental care not to cost more than other healthcare, and permanently halving public transport prices.
V wants to finance its promises, among other things, through a wealth tax on billionaires, which is estimated to bring in 50 billion kronor for the state. However, S leader Magdalena Andersson has said that the amount feels like "a fantasy sum" and has rejected such a tax.
