Lawyer Claims Woman Wanted Wild Night in World Junior Scandal

The lawyer for one of the five players on Canada's national junior ice hockey team accused of sexual assault against a woman claims that it was the woman herself who wanted a "wild night". I don't remember saying those words, the woman replies – who previously described being intoxicated, scared and felt that the safest thing was to do what the men wanted.

The incident occurred in June 2018, when Canada's World Junior Championship team gathered to celebrate their gold medal from earlier that year. The woman met player Michael McLeod at a bar and followed him to his room to have sex. Then, four other players entered the room.

David Humphrey, McLeod's defender, implied during his cross-examination of the woman that it was she who had taken the initiative to invite the other young men.

I claim that McLeod asked if you meant it and if it was really what you wanted, and that you said yes, says Humphrey in court.

The woman herself responds that she has no memory of the conversation.

I was very surprised when they came in, she says.

The woman testified earlier during the trial that she was forced into sexual acts with the players, despite crying and trying to leave the room several times.

All five players – Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton – deny any wrongdoing. None of them have a contract with an NHL club today.
