The International Biathlon Union (IBU) confirms to the Norwegian news agency NTB that Bakken will be honored ahead of Thursday's sprint competition in Oberhof.
"There will be a set-up for Thursday's sprint, but it's not fully planned. There will be a tribute in the stadium and something included in the television broadcast," says IBU's communications manager Christian Winkler.
According to the Norwegian Biathlon Federation's general secretary Emilie Nordskar, Bakken will be given starting number one, which means the first starter of the competition will be given starting number two. Nordskar tells NRK there will be a minute's applause.
Sivert Guttorm Bakken was found dead in his hotel room in Lavazé, Italy, the day before Christmas Eve. He was 27 years old.
