Nicklas Lasu intercepted a pass in his own zone and set his sights on Luleå's goal.
The match was a close one and the Frölunda veteran had almost too much time to think during the solo raid. But in the end, the decisive 1–0 goal came midway through the CHL final.
"I had decided early on and got a good result. It's a great feeling, of course," the 36-year-old says afterwards, with the medal around his neck.
"Incredibly proud"
Lasu has now been involved in four of Frölunda's five CHL titles. But perhaps this one feels a little extra after the recent setbacks in the SHL.
Frölunda lost the league lead and had lost five straight home matches before the final in Scandinavium.
"Yes, I am incredibly proud that we could pull this off, considering how it has turned out," says Lasu.
However, it was far from a surefire victory. Luleå had an answer to most of what Frölunda had to offer and tied the game first at 1–1 and then again at 2–2.
"Must make it happen"
They tied it with 16 seconds left in the game.
"Yes, it's absolutely incredible. But it should also be exciting," says Nicklas Lasu.
"Honestly, I was just thinking about the next substitution. And when we got the power play in overtime, I thought, 'Now it has to happen.'"
Already on Thursday it's time for the SHL again, when Rögle comes to Gothenburg.
The question is whether Frölunda can find their game again in the series.
"Yes, I think we honestly know that we can play very good hockey. But everyone has to be as focused as we were today."
