In total, there are 314 counting districts, including late postal votes and votes cast abroad. As of Wednesday afternoon, just over half of the districts had been counted, but the larger ones still remain.
The election authority estimates that there are close to 300,000 votes. And because the election is so close, neither side has wanted to declare victory until all the votes have been counted.
Ready on Thursday
According to the Election Authority, the results are not expected to be available until Thursday.
But mathematician and economist Gustav Karreskog Rehbinder believes it may be possible to determine a winner as early as Wednesday.
We probably don't have to wait for all the Wednesday votes, but we will still be able to say it today, even if there are some districts missing, he says.
Gustav Karreskog Rehbinder is behind the forecasting company Vera Policy, which publishes its forecasts at valprognos.se, and which SVT used during election night.
But the timing depends on whether the large counting districts are counted on Wednesday or not.
If they remain, we'll just have to wait until tomorrow, he says.
So far, the likelihood of something unexpected happening has decreased somewhat.
“Stands and weighs”
According to Vera Policy, it looks like S will lose one seat in the final vote count, although Gustav Karreskog Rehbinder emphasizes that the forecast is uncertain.
The 176th seat is up for grabs. Right now it's with the Social Democrats. But they usually do poorly in the Wednesday votes and the Left Party usually does well.
According to Vera Policy's forecast, the mandate will therefore likely go to the Left Party. But it is a close call.
The Moderates are also up in arms about this mandate. It could very well end up with them too, says Karreskog Rehbinder.
He believes it could first jump from S to M and then to V. But it could take some time before it can be determined which party is in the lead.
