Buildings have been evacuated and traffic has been diverted since a large sinkhole swallowed a part of a heavily trafficked road in central Bangkok.

Right outside a police station and a hospital, the ground gave way on Wednesday and left a sinkhole that, according to the news agency AFP, is around 50 meters deep.

According to reports, the cause is heavy rainfall combined with a leaking pipe that has made the ground under the buildings porous. Near the sinkhole, the construction of an underground subway station is underway, which is believed to have contributed to the collapse.

No human is said to have been injured as a result of the accident.
