”The enemy's massive nighttime attack on the Kyiv region lasted for almost ten hours. The enemy used attack drones and missiles against peaceful settlements”, writes Mykola Kalasjnyk at the region's military administration on X.
This is a combined attack with both drones and missiles, according to the authorities. Rescue services and healthcare have worked at several locations and the number of injured is feared to increase.
Several buildings
Downed drones are said to have hit several apartment buildings and caused fires. A gas station, offices, warehouses, garages, and cars have also burned as a result of the attack.
At the same time as the explosions thundered, the capital's military leadership warned of impending attacks with more powerful ballistic missiles. Residents were urged to immediately seek shelter and stay there.
When the danger had passed in the morning, Kyiv residents were urged to close their windows as there is a lot of smoke over the city.
”Constant attacks”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyj sees the attacks as a clear escalation from Russia.
”Hundreds of 'shaheds' every night, constant attacks and massive attacks on Ukrainian cities. This requires us to speed up things. Sanctions must be imposed faster, and the pressure on Russia must be strong enough for them to really feel the consequences of their terror”, he writes on X.
Russia has in recent weeks scaled up its recurring, often nighttime, air attacks on Ukrainian cities far from the front lines. Yesterday's attacks with over 700 drones and tens of missiles were the most extensive air attack during the entire Russian war of aggression, said President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Wednesday.
