A ten-minute video from "Kung Fury 2" has been leaked by an anonymous user on YouTube. The film takes place in Miami 1985 and the video features, among other things, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the President of the USA, Michael Fassbender as an aggressive FBI agent with a hockey helmet, and a figure of Adolf Hitler being thrown down into a volcano.
The short film action comedy "Kung Fury" was crowdfunded through the service Kickstarter and became a viral success in 2015. Shortly thereafter, the sequel was announced, and received Swedish film support of one million kronor.
"The film has been held hostage"
The filming was completed in 2019, but "Kung Fury 2" could not be finished because the producers and the Chinese investors – and their American branch – have ended up in a lawsuit over unpaid payments. Very little has happened with the film since then. The leaked material was produced for PR purposes and was never intended to be shown to the general public.
Sandberg, who also plays the film's lead role, says in a statement to Variety:
"I hope at least that people can see the passion that we have put into the film. The world deserves to see it as it was intended to be seen. This film has been held hostage for the past five years, but I promise to continue fighting and see to it that this film gets the chance it truly deserves."
The leak appears to have been timed with this year's upcoming film festival in Cannes, where the first "Kung Fury" had its world premiere.
