Eleven people have been killed at Bondi Beach in Sydney during a Jewish family festival.
"Terrible attack in Sydney, aimed at Jews in the middle of the celebration of the holiday of Hanukkah," Kristersson writes in a post on X, adding that his thoughts go out to the victims and their families.
Several other Swedish party leaders have also commented.
"Anti-Semitism must always be fought, wherever it appears. Jews should be safe. My thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and all Jews who now feel worried," writes opposition leader Magdalena Andersson (S) on X.
Leaders around the world condemn the suspected terrorist attack.
Britain's King Charles III says in a statement that he is "horrified and saddened" by the "horrible anti-Semitic terrorist attack":
“I know that the spirit of community and love that shines so brightly in Australia – and the light at the heart of the Hanukkah festival – will always triumph over the darkness of such evil.”
US President Donald Trump also condemned the act, which he described at a Christmas celebration at the White House as "horrible" and a "purely anti-Semitic attack."
