Quantity discount means that people who are convicted of multiple crimes at the same time do not receive the full sentence for all of the crimes, which the government and the Sweden Democrats want to abolish.
It's about everything from rapists who prey on women and fraudsters who prey on the elderly, who are allowed back on the streets far too quickly and too few victims of crime who receive redress, says Kristersson during a press conference on Thursday.
The Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Center Party and the Green Party are expected to vote no, something that Kristersson calls "a mockery of crime victims".
It is incomprehensible to vote no. We sincerely regret this. As in the NATO issue, it would have been good to have broad agreement that sends a clear signal: Don't come to Sweden and commit crimes, we have decided to get rid of that kind of crime.
The Social Democrats have instead proposed abolishing the quantity discount only for sexual and violent crimes. The party has also objected to the government's proposal, among other reasons, because there is a lack of sufficient prison places.
"What is incomprehensible is why the Moderates are proposing a comprehensive increase in penalties without a start date, funding or space in prisons. We are voting no to a sham proposal that will not make a difference for crime victims in real life," writes the party's legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho in a comment.
