"Sweden's position is the same as it has been since February 24, 2022: We stand by Ukraine's side for as long as necessary. Now the pressure on Russia must increase and support for Ukraine must be further strengthened," the prime minister writes on X.
“We regret the US agreement with Russia on diesel deliveries, as energy revenues are central to the Russian war chest,” he continues.
The foreign policy statement comes after President Donald Trump announced that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and agreed that Russia would supply diesel to the US and global markets.
Kristersson also writes that on Monday the EU will adopt its largest sanctions package to date against “the Russian military-industrial complex.” He also calls on more countries to do more to counter the so-called Russian shadow fleet and to use frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s benefit.
"The broad political support and strong popular commitment to Ukraine in Sweden is a strength and an asset in these turbulent times," he writes.
