Kremlin: Ukraine Peace Talks Are a Lengthy Process

The Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitri Peskov believes that it is a "long process" to find a solution to the conflict with Ukraine, at the same time as the pressure increases from the USA.

”President Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to achieve a peaceful solution in Ukraine as soon as possible. It is a long process, it requires efforts and it is not easy”, said Peskov in an interview with the state Russian TV.

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, has previously threatened Moscow with further sanctions if Moscow does not approve an agreement on ceasefire within 50 days. But despite the increased pressure from the USA, Peskov claims that Washington is beginning to realize the difficulties in finding a peaceful solution in a short time.

Peskov repeated, however, that a peaceful solution between the countries cannot be achieved without Russia's most important goals being achieved. Russia has previously submitted a list of requirements to Ukraine where they, among other things, demand that Ukraine should deny all military support. Ukraine has rejected the demands.

On Saturday, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj announced that they have proposed that new peace talks should take place next week. The Kremlin has not officially responded to the Ukrainian proposal.
