Darkness. That's how you can describe the experience for San Jose's away fans from the time Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby tied it 1-1 halfway into the first period until Anthony Mantha sent in a 5-1 short in the third.
But for those who missed it: hockey moves fast. Especially when you have great Swedes on the ice.
John Klingberg began San Jose's powerful turnaround when he made it 2–5 on the power play with a wrist shot, assisted by Tyler Toffoli and William Eklund.
The same Eklund then scored the next goal himself, seven minutes later. Alexander Wennberg provided the assist.
In total, there were three assists for Wennberg and 1+1 for Eklund before Macklin Celebrini and Toffoli sent the match into overtime.
John Klingberg had the great pleasure of completing the turnaround he started.
Three minutes into extra time, he was able to score the winning goal after a nice collaboration with Celebrini.
"When you're part of a turnaround like this, there are certain things that start it, but then you just roll with it," Klingberg said, according to nhl.com.
In the Pittsburgh booth, there were, for obvious reasons, not as cheerful faces. Tonight's game was the team's fourth straight loss, and they have lost eight of nine games that have gone to overtime.
"There are many inappropriate words for how this match unfolded," says the team's Swedish defender Erik Karlsson.
