Austrian artist Gustav Klimt's "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer" has found a new owner. The price ended up at a breathtaking 2.2 billion kronor, making it the second most expensive work of art ever sold at auction.

The portrait, which Klimt painted between 1914 and 1916, was sold at an auction in New York, USA, on Tuesday after 20 minutes of bidding between six different people.

It has not been announced who the final buyer of the painting for $236.4 million is.

The portrait depicts 20-year-old Elisabeth Lederer, daughter of Klimt's largest collector, wearing a white Chinese imperial robe in front of a blue wallpaper with Asian-inspired motifs.

The most expensive painting ever sold at auction is “Salvator Mundi” painted by Leonardo da Vinci, which was bought for $450 million in 2017.
