The relocation of Kiruna Church will take place on August 19 and 20 this summer – if the weather permits. LKAB describes the church relocation as "a globally unique event" that will be live-streamed on the web.

The church has been appointed as Sweden's most beautiful building, emphasizes LKAB, which states that it has a great cultural-historical value. With a width of 40 meters and a weight of 600 tons, the church will also be the largest building to be moved in the community transformation that is taking place in Kiruna due to the mining.

It will be loaded onto a trailer and moved in its entirety. The road has been widened to make it possible.

"The church is unique and means a lot to many beyond being a landmark for Kiruna, and we want to give everyone the opportunity to follow and be part of this historic event," says Stefan Holmblad Johansson, project manager for the move at LKAB, in a press release.

The bell tower will also be moved.
