The royal couple is in New York for the celebration of the UN's 80th anniversary and the opening of the General Assembly.
On Wednesday, the king met President Volodymyr Zelenskyj and then expressed his support for the Ukrainian people.
Through the court's information manager Margareta Thorgren, TT asked the king two questions about how he views Sweden's and the UN's responsibility to contribute to peace in Ukraine.
The UN is a peace organization and Sweden has made commitments to support Ukraine as long as it is needed. It is absolutely crucial that the support continues. When peace returns, extensive work will begin to assist Ukraine with its reconstruction, says the king.
When the UN is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, it is in a time of war and uncertainty. What task should, according to the king, be the organization's main one going forward?
The UN's task is the same as when the world community created the organization after World War II. Together, we continue to avoid new world wars. When parts of the world are now on fire, it is more important than ever. That's why the queen and I are here, says the king.
Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) was also present at the bilateral meeting.
We naturally expressed the Swedish people's strong support for Ukraine, but also had very concrete discussions about what support Ukraine needs and how we can work together. Both to stop the war, but also after the war, she says.
Did you promise any more support to Ukraine?
Every time Sweden has presented a support package, we start working on the next support package. We will continue to support Ukraine as long as it is required.
