Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announces that 24 Nigerian schoolgirls who were abducted from a school in the northwestern part of the country last week have been released.

A total of 25 schoolgirls were abducted by armed men from Maga, Kebbi State, on November 17. The attack killed the school's deputy principal and injured a security guard. One of the kidnapped girls managed to escape on the same day of the kidnapping.

In the statement, Bola Tinubu urges continued efforts to try to rescue other school children who have been kidnapped in the past week.

The attack in Maga triggered several similar kidnappings, the statement added. Among them, more than 300 children were abducted from a Catholic school in neighboring Niger state over the weekend, according to a compilation by a Christian organization in the country. About 50 of the kidnapped have managed to escape the perpetrators.
