The Qatari table tennis boss challenged the International Table Tennis Federation's Swedish chairman Petra Sörling at the congress in May in Doha, Qatar.
When it became clear that Sörling had won the vote with 104–102, chaos erupted and the congress had to be interrupted.
There was such an aggressive atmosphere in the room and I did not feel safe, said Sörling afterwards to Dagens Nyheter.
The International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF, already proclaimed Sörling the winner the same evening and has stated that the vote followed the federation's statutes and regulations.
ITTF is also investigating the disturbances that are attributed to al-Mohannadi's supporters.
Khalil al-Mohannadi indicated early on that he would appeal the result of the chairman election.
On X, he writes that an appeal has been submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Cas.
He also writes that he believes the voting did not proceed correctly, neither when it comes to the voting procedure itself nor who was allowed to vote.
In an interview with Sydsvenskan last week, Petra Sörling said:
I am convinced that it basically is about the fact that I am a woman. A man was not allowed to lose to a woman in Qatar.
