With a nostalgic and at the same time stylish script, Keyyo and Edvin Törnblom have been praised for their effort in this year's Melodifestival.
Expressen's Maria Brander writes that it's "a year when the hosts sit as cast in their context. I haven't seen anything so fine since Petra Mede."
Aftonbladet's Markus Larsson means that "It was such revue numbers that SVT used to spoil the viewers with during the competition's golden years."
Johan Lindqvist at Göteborgs-Posten notes that Harald Treutiger, Triple & Touch and Lotta Engberg certainly ripped up the Gothenburgers' self-image as modern and cool, but comes to the conclusion that "Glenn grilled, Edvin shone. Nice and smart."
Traveled back in time
The opening number was marked by nostalgia, when the program traveled 40 years back in time. Hairspray, indoor smoking, and strange camera angles were matched with a set design taken from a typical Melodifestival in the late 1980s.
Edvin Törnblom got the nickname "Loffe" and Keyyo posed stiffly in the best Yvonne Ryding spirit, all topped off by Lotta Engberg and Triple & Touch performing their song "100 %" from Melodifestivalen 1988.
That we got to wear the clothes, had time-typical dancers, and then Harald Treutiger. It has been an honor to share the stage with people we ourselves have admired since childhood, says Keyyo.
She has previously told in interviews that she always wanted to work with Edward af Sillén as a scriptwriter and get an outlet for her love for older Melodifestivals.
"Not for everyone"
That the humor risked flying over the heads of a large part of the viewers who were not born during the decade is a risk you have to take, notes Edvin Törnblom.
We had Miss Snusk for the youth last week and now we've targeted the parents. All humor is not for everyone, and we see it as that we're also educating the people. There's a reason why so many artists and songs from the 80s still live on.
Törnblom also got to do a celebrated sketch number, "For the men who change channel". In the number, they used all the tricks to attract the difficult target group of straight men: wolf jacket, Glenn Hysén by the grill, Ferry Svan, and Brandsta City Släckers.
It was a declaration of love, he says.
