In a post that begins with "Dear Manchester", De Bruyne writes:
"This is going to be my last months as a Manchester City player. It's not easy to write, but as football players, we all know that this day will eventually come. That day is here and you deserve to hear it from me first".
The midfield star came to Manchester City in 2015 and has won a Champions League title, six Premier League titles, two FA Cup titles, and five League Cup titles.
"Football took me to you – and to this city. I chased my dream without knowing that this period would change my life. The city, the club, and the people gave me everything. I had no other choice but to give everything back. And we won everything", writes De Bruyne, whose contract expires this summer.
At a press conference ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby, coach Pep Guardiola praises the Belgian:
He is one of the greatest we have seen. His passes, his goals, his vision for the game in the final third, it's so hard to replace. What he has done here over the past decade is outstanding.
De Bruyne is second in the Premier League's all-time assist list with 118 assists and has scored 106 goals in 413 matches for City.
He has also previously represented Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen, Genk, and Chelsea.
The Belgian has made 105 international appearances and scored 28 goals, winning World Championship bronze in 2018.
