The first three weeks of March saw a decrease in the number of sold hotel rooms by over four percent compared to last year. But the last week of March saw a turnaround and the result for the month ended in an increase of over three percent.
According to Visita, an "unnaturally high demand" was seen in the Stockholm region due to Kent's concerts. But the positive turnaround was no general trend break.
"Kent's concerts were a much-needed addition to Stockholm's hotel market, but unfortunately, the increase can be likened to a flash in the pan. Right now, the development is characterized by low growth, high unemployment, rising cost levels, and decreased optimism among households," says Thomas Jakobsson, chief economist at Visita according to the press release.
