The Christian Democrats "welcome the EU Commission's proposal" to lift the ban on new gasoline cars after 2035.

This is what KD politicians Alice Teodorescu Måwe and Peter Kullgren write on SvD Debatt .

"Unfortunately, the issue of cars, transportation and individual engine engineers has now ended up at the epicenter of the climate opinion corridor," they write.

The EU has previously decided on a ban on new petrol cars after 2035. According to Teodorescu Måwe and Kullgren, this would in practice mean that only electric cars would be allowed after 2035, which is not realistic.

It is written that "the Christian Democrats want to see a fossil-free vehicle fleet", and that they therefore want to "invest in research and innovation for new, climate-smart fuels".

However, it is believed that new combustion engines may be allowed after 2035: "as part of the solution to achieving the EU's climate goals, since specific engine types such as the combustion engine are not a problem in themselves - it is the emissions from fossil fuels that are the problem," it writes.
