On Tuesday, party leader Ebba Busch presented the proposals in the ten-point programme that will make KD the new bourgeois school party. The Liberals, who have long been the driving force on the school issue, are pushing to ban profits, but according to Ebba Busch, this is playing into the hands of the S.
"We want to turn the discussion away from the form of operation. There are completely different things that determine whether the school succeeds in its basic mission," says the KD leader at a press conference.
Needs to be investigated
One of the points is the introduction of order grades. In which grades the grades should be introduced needs to be investigated, says Busch. However, she is convinced that it will in some form also be beneficial for younger students.
Among the KD proposals are also increased possibilities for detention, for example for students who repeatedly ignore their homework. According to party secretary Liza-Maria Norlin, teachers need more tools to be able to maintain order.
We want to show that there are consequences when you don't do what you're supposed to do, she says.
KD also wants to reduce screen use among younger students by eliminating individual tablets and computers, and introducing half an hour of heart-rate-raising exercise every school day.
Want to allow school uniforms
Another proposal is compulsory schooling, which means that those who have not learned what they are supposed to can be kept in primary school until the age of 18.
The party also wants to establish so-called “no excuses” schools. The education model, which is taken from the US and England, is based on strict discipline and high standards. It often includes longer school days, teaching on Saturdays and mandatory summer school, as well as mandatory school uniforms - something that is currently against the Education Act.
"We want to be able to set dress code requirements. It's a way to strengthen the community," says party secretary Liza-Maria Norlin.
