Källström Urges Gyökeres to Impress Ahead of Arsenal Debut

Viktor Gyökeres can make his debut for Arsenal in the training match against Tottenham. Now expectations are rising for both the attacking star and the Swedish national team that qualifies for the World Championship in the autumn. "Now it's up to Viktor to make as good an impression as possible", says Kim Källström, football manager at the Swedish Football Association and former Arsenal player.

The day after the transfer from Sporting to Arsenal was completed, Viktor Gyökeres joined the Premier League team's preseason tour in Asia. The Swedish attacking star is expected to be ready for Thursday's training match against Tottenham in Hong Kong.

"It's full speed right away," says Kim Källström in a statement to TT.

"The preseason tour gives Viktor the chance to quickly get into the group, learn the team's routines and start focusing on training and performance. Now it's up to Viktor to make as good an impression as possible."

Kim Källström, 42, was loaned out from Spartak Moskva to Arsenal in 2014.

"It's a fantastic club, and I felt well received when I got there. Arsenal is a club that takes care of its players in an excellent way, and I can't imagine anything other than Viktor will feel taken care of there."

Receipt for Swedish football

In the fall, the World Championship qualification awaits the national team, starting against Slovenia on September 5.

Sweden has two of the world's hottest attackers in Gyökeres and Alexander Isak – who is rumored to leave Newcastle for Premier League champions Liverpool.

"It's a receipt that we can foster top players in Sweden, and it inspires young players to continue investing at home in their clubs. We work together in Swedish football to take the next step and keep pace with international competition in terms of player development," says Källström.

"Incredibly valuable"

He continues:

"For the national team, it's obviously incredibly valuable to have players who perform and have prominent roles in major clubs in the biggest leagues – especially now ahead of an important World Championship qualification. It raises the level of the entire group."
