KAJ Ready to Celebrate if Finland Wins Eurovision

The final is looming for KAJ, who are the favourites in the Eurovision Song Contest. The trio feel the pressure – and have just understood that they will be disappointed if they lose. I would probably feel a little sting. Unless Finland wins, then we would really celebrate, says Axel Åhman.

The Finland-Swedish humor group KAJ has hectic days in Basel, with non-stop interviews when they're not rehearsing. After the first semifinal, they've got a couple of days' respite.

We've got to eat and rest, that's the most important thing. And that you get to sleep at night, says Kevin Holmström.

Tired of the question

The trio has had to deal with Swedish, Finnish, as well as international media.

The only question we're tired of is how it feels to be top of the betting. It's so hard to say anything else than that we're trying to keep a cool head, says Jakob Norrgård.

Among their biggest competitors, the group counts the Netherlands, Austria – and Finland.

We're really being hunted. Claude from the Netherlands did a fantastic performance in the semifinal and now France is coming too, says Jakob Norrgård.

You really get the feeling that the French delegation is going for the win, adds Kevin Holmström.

Despite KAJ being in the lead, currently with a 39 percent chance of taking the whole competition according to the betting companies, the trio doesn't feel secure.

We see Belgium's Red Sebastian as a warning finger. Everyone thought he was completely safe, it looked and sounded great in the arena. Then he got eliminated in the semifinal and you don't understand at all what happened, says Axel Åhman.

"Want to win"

To not let the favorite status go to their heads, they're trying to remind themselves that just winning Melodifestivalen was significant enough.

It's so awesome to be here. Of course, we want to win, but it's big enough that we got to go to Switzerland, says Kevin Holmström.

The only thing that would feel bigger than their own win would be if their home country Finland got to host the competition next year and Erika Vikman's "Ich komme" takes it all.

We've been tipped to win since March. But if Finland wins, then we'd really be super happy for Erika's sake, says Axel Åhman.

The group consists of Axel Åhman, Jakob Norrgård, and Kevin Holmström, all born in 1993, from the Ostrobothnian localities of Pälvis, Maxmo, and Komossa.

They formed Kaj in 2009 and have since then released seven albums, written two musicals, and toured in Swedish Finland.

Kaj sings in the Vörå dialect and their songs span genres such as pop, rap, disco, and schlager. They also have a side project together, the rockabilly band Vörjeans.
