Ski World Championship in Trondheim was close to going bankrupt. Now the junior World Championship is being moved from Trondheim to Lillehammer.

The large deficit after the World Championship in Trondheim earlier this year, and the subsequent economic uncertainty, made it doubtful whether Norway would be able to manage to host the junior World Championship this coming winter. In dialogue with the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (Fis), solutions that are economically justifiable have been discussed, writes the Norwegian Ski Association in a press release.

Now it has been decided that the championship will be held in Lillehammer and not in Trondheim as it was first said, reports NTB.

"The Ski Association received signals about contributions from the region that made an economically justifiable junior World Championship possible", says Chairman Toe Moe Dyrhaug.

Approximately 700 skiers from 45 nations are expected to attend the Junior World Championship from 3-8 March next year.

The Ski World Championship in Trondheim had calculated a surplus of 15-20 million kronor before the championship, but instead ended up with a deficit of 37 million.
