He is convicted of, among other things, a series of bank robberies and was already called one of Sweden's most dangerous criminals at the age of 20. In 2014, he was acquitted in a large cocaine affair, but now "playa-svensken" Jonas Falk – also called "the Swedish Pablo Escobar" – has both been convicted and arrested for new crimes.

Jonas Falk was sentenced as recently as Wednesday to prison for one year and ten months for his involvement in the extortion of financier Joachim Kuylenstierna.

On Friday, he was arrested again despite his denial – suspected of four extremely serious narcotics offenses in a web that, according to the prosecutor, involves 2.5 tons of cocaine.

Bank robbery and escapes

The now 52-year-old Jonas Falk, born Jonas Oredsson, was sentenced to his first prison sentence at the age of 17. Since then, the suspicions and convictions have followed each other.

Among other things, Aftonbladet has previously reported on how Jonas Falk in the 1990s was one of Sweden's most notorious criminals after a series of bank robberies and several escapes in spectacular forms.

He eventually ended up in Colombia, where he was arrested again in 2010, suspected of being one of the main men in a worldwide cocaine league.

Sentenced for money laundering

The web became known as "Operation Playa" and gave Falk the nickname "playa-Swede". Jonas Falk has also been called "the Swedish Pablo Escobar" due to the suspicions.

Decisive was when French authorities struck against a boat in the Caribbean in the summer of 2010.

On board, 1.4 tons of cocaine were found.

The captain, the so-called "single sailor" Mauritz Andersson, was later sentenced to 14 years in prison. But Jonas Falk, who in the district court was sentenced to 18 years in prison, was ultimately completely acquitted and received a total of 3.6 million kronor in compensation from the state.

However, the time in freedom was short – he was arrested almost directly and extradited to Spain, where he was sentenced after a lengthy trial in 2021 to 2.5 years in prison and fines equivalent to 50 million kronor for narcotics-related money laundering.
