Environmental and climate researcher Johan Rockström is appointed "Swede of the year", an award given by the organisation Swedes in the world.

They motivate their choice by saying Rockström is ”an unwavering voice for science and openness.”

”It is easy as a Swede to feel pride over how respected Johan Rockström's name and research is all over the world”, says the chairman of Swedes Worldwide, Magnus Brännström, in a press release.

Johan Rockström is professor of environmental science at Stockholm University and head of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), a centre for climate and sustainability research in Germany.

Last year the award went to Sarah Sjöström and Armand Duplantis.
