The journalist couple Joakim Medin and Sofie Axelsson have become parents. This morning at 08.29, their daughter Esme was born, writes Dagens ETC.

The feeling I have now will strengthen me before my next trial in September, says Joakim Medin in a greeting from the maternity ward.

Joakim Medin travelled at the end of March on an assignment for the newspaper ETC to Turkey to report on the extensive protests in the country. He was arrested at the airport in Istanbul and placed in the high-security prison Marmara, accused of participating in a terrorist organisation, spreading terrorist propaganda and insulting the president.

Medin was released in the middle of May after 51 days in a Turkish prison. He has been sentenced to a conditional sentence in a Turkish court for insulting the president and although he has been allowed to leave the country, the charges of terrorist crimes remain and will continue to be tried in Turkey in Medin's absence.
