Åkesson has previously said that if L has not reached 3.5 percent in public opinion polls ten days before the election, he sees an L vote as wasted. Now that the day is here and another opinion poll - conducted by Verian for SVT - shows that L is moving forward, he believes that the number is not as important.

"The interesting thing is the trend, to be blunt. And the trend right now is quite clear, so if it continues, there is a possibility that they will pass the barrier," he tells the newspaper.

However, L is still clearly below both Åkesson's limit and the parliamentary threshold according to Verian, of 3.0 percent.

Wednesday's Novus poll showed voter support of 3.3 percent for L.
