According to prosecutor Laure Beccau, the two suspects, a 37-year-old and a 39-year-old, were convicted ten years ago for being involved in the same theft ring. They both also have a number of other previous convictions on their criminal records.
A total of four people, three men and one woman, who are suspected of involvement in the coup against the Louvre have now been charged and taken into custody.
The spectacular break-in at the world-famous museum in Paris occurred on October 19. Four masked robbers, dubbed the “commando team” in French media, stole a range of jewellery and jewels worth the equivalent of SEK 690 million. The robbery was carried out using a stepladder and took place within seven minutes.
The prosecutor does not want to answer questions about whether investigators are getting closer to finding the jewels.
"We are investigating the parallel market to see if the jewels will be sold - which I hope will not happen soon. They can be used for money laundering, they can be used for trade, all leads are being investigated," she says.
